Golden Milk
enjoy this warm medicinal drink with powerful health benefits from India
Turmeric is a vibrant root that weaves together the cultural languages of Africa and India through its history of usage and cultivation. These two regions share a beautiful lineage of fusion along the eastern coast of Africa. In fact, the indigenous people in India are a Black ethnic group with ancestral ties to the motherland. I’m grateful to have explored this herbal remedy in more detail last spring season. Read about Turmeric in Jamaica and in Yoruba language on the blog.
Golden milk is a traditional beverage in the Ayurvedic medicine system from India. The name golden comes from the yellow color of turmeric, which is the primary ingredient. This is a warming drink that helps to improve rest and relaxation while cleansing our bodies with powerful anti-inflammatory compounds. Other spices and sweeteners are often added for extra medicinal benefits.
To celebrate the publication of our new Turmeric Monograph Book made in collaboration with Smarter By Nature, here’s a recipe for you to craft this healing deliciousness in the comfort of your home. Golden milk is one of the special recipes featured in our book. It can be made with dairy or non-dairy milk. We follow a plant-based diet so this recipe uses oat milk. You can also use other plant milks such as almond, cashew, walnut and soy milk. Measurements are not included in this recipe. Use your intuition and channel your ancestors!
